About Rae Gibson, Counselor

For many of us, there comes a day when we wake up to the reality that life is far outside our control. Living the good life is not something we can make happen, no matter how hard we try, or perhaps, because of how hard we try. For some of us this reality has been ever present: things have been really painful, unjust, and heavy for a really long time. For others, a few key events have brought this truth home. Counseling is a chance for us to face this truth in, and with, the presence of another. It is the opportunity to accept this reality without losing hope, and to grow stronger, find healing, and flourish. I approach counseling with the firsthand knowledge that asking for help in times of sorrow and brokenness can be a huge first step toward healing and hope.

Who Rae Works With

Rae works with individuals, couples, and families of all ages in O’Fallon, MO and the surrounding St. Charles County area, offering both in-person and virtual sessions. Specifically, her areas of interest include clients navigating relational and marriage difficulties, LGBTQ+ individuals and couples, and families with LGBTQ+ loved ones who are working through distress and loss in family relationships. Furthermore, she has a particular passion for clients wrestling with ambiguity, loss, and the weightiness of life. In addition, she considers it an honor to work with clients at every age and stage.

Therapeutic Approach

At the core, Rae approaches counseling with the firsthand knowledge that asking for help is itself an act of courage. Moreover, her work is shaped by a deep belief that healing and flourishing are possible even in the most painful seasons of life. Whether you are facing a specific loss or carrying a weight you cannot quite name, Rae offers a steady and compassionate presence alongside you.

Background

Rae holds a Master of Arts in Counseling from Covenant Theological Seminary. Furthermore, she brings a decade of experience working in elementary and middle school settings, giving her a grounded understanding of children, adolescents, and the families around them. Outside the counseling room, she has four adult children, a high schooler, and two grandchildren and understands firsthand the full and complicated richness of family life.
